I know you lost a real person, a friend and mentor, unlike so many of us who are mourning with you. Thank you for sharing this touching, personal tribute and humanizing an icon for us. May your treasured memories of your time with him give you peace.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1876636582012156635.post-85723804578972602922012-05-09T08:51:10.274-07:002012-05-09T08:51:10.274-07:00giving us permission to be childlike...what a gift...giving us permission to be childlike...what a gift he gave us.
thanks so much for sharing your heart here, Paul.annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17978996243523772059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1876636582012156635.post-9578786856554001172012-05-08T20:52:09.951-07:002012-05-08T20:52:09.951-07:00Many of the tributes today mentioned what was most...Many of the tributes today mentioned what was most shocking and valued about Maurice was his honesty about childhood. I don't think it sat out where anyone could see it and I'm not sure why I brought it and not some other thing. But knowing that I kept that thread with me makes me glad I did.

I don't think I even understood that book until I hit my mid-30's which is part of Sendak's genius.
