Le phoque

'Le phoque' by Caroline Lamarche, illustrated by Goele Dewanckel

I am completely, out of my mind in awe of the art from this book.

Elegant simplicity gets me every time. Of course it doesn't hurt that I'm usually surrounded by seals whenever I take my kayak out. Still, the art kills me it's so gorgeous.

Wow, that stuff is gorgeous. How did you find that? Is it being reissued with a US publisher?

I found it while surfing. I'm going to try to order it from France, but there's a language barrier I have to outwit. I'm sure it is not retailing for $1,870.00
Too bad my daughter is learning Spanish in school rather than something useful to ME!

I just married a French reader! Maybe we can meet up at The Bohemian and he can translate.

You're good Paul Schmid. I'm impressed. I love your bio pic (and the rest). Just a writer but enjoy great illustrations as much as the next schlub. Look forward to seeing more.

Hello BJW,

Thanks much, glad to hear from you. Your dad is one of the nicest guys around!

Paul, thanks for sharing Dewanckel's art. It is so strong and simple. Has an Inuit vibe, hard to describe. Have you seen the book, The Wave, by Susy Lee (Chronicle, 2008)? Two color printing. Also spare but brilliant.

Hey Richard, yes I've seen The Wave!

Really wonderful book and art.
